FL Studio 20 vs Logic Pro X – Which Is Better?

All Digital Audio Stations (DAW) or music production programs have the potential to give a professional result to your musical productions.

In other words, no DAW will make you a better producer just by using it.

Since it is you who must internalize the knowledge to become proficient and control the production processes, mixing, mastering, and thus obtaining professional productions.

FL Studio 20 vs Logic Pro X – Full Comparison

So the processes of music production can be carried out in all paid DAWs, but in certain of them, it is a little easier to perform certain tasks.

For example, in Reaper and Pro Tools, editing, recording, and mixing may be more fluid since these two are focused on it.

However, that doesn’t mean that electronic music or hip hop can not be produced in them, which are genres that use loops and synthesizers.

Nevertheless, the workflow becomes a bit more tedious due to those deficiencies.

Now, whether one DAW is better than another does not depend on the DAW but on your needs, and what you want to produce.

FL Studio 20

It is a Digital Audio Workstation created more than 20 years ago by the Belgian company Image-Line, which since its origins is focused on creating loops.

Hence, its old name Fruity Loops and this is one of the favorite DAWs to produce music on Home Studios.

FL Studio lifetime free updates

Pros

It comes as many very good native plugins such as Edison (to edit audio) or Citrus, plus its Piano Roll is very good.

Another very useful tool is Ghost Notes, which allows you to select a specific scale and when you play on the keyboard.

The wrong notes will be corrected so that they are in accordance with the musical scale previously selected by you.

This is a great option for beginners as it corrects false notes out of scale.

We can also add 32-bit and 64-bit VST (as are the most independent plugins that are sold in any music store).

On the other hand, we want to highlight that regardless of the version of FL Studio 20 you buy, the license will guarantee you free updates for life.

There is no need to spend extra money to access these new features.

Cons

Among the negative points, we can mention that its automation is not that good compared to other DAWs.

And it tends to have a little more latency, if we put it on par with other of its rivals, such as Ableton Live.

Although this will depend a lot on your computer, if it is powerful this inconvenience will not be perceived.

Another small detail is that those modifications that we apply to the Master Bus will not always be applied to the tracks that enter it, which makes it less intuitive than other DAWs.

Pricing

It has four versions, the Producer Edition being the most recommended for its relationship between a good price and the benefits it offers us, which are quite a few.

This version also has a student discount, but only if you buy it from an official distributor.

Versions:

  • FL Studio Fruity Edition: 99 USD
  • FL Studio Producer Edition: 199 USD
  • FL Studio Signature Bundle: 299 USD
  • FL Studio All Plugins Bundle: 737 USD

Logic Pro X

Logic Pro X DAW

This is an exclusive software for Mac, and it is highly recommended for all those who are composers or arrangers.

It has an extensive library of sounds and loops, large enough so that you can compose new songs without feeling limited.

Logic Pro X offers you a great variety of instruments that are free, thus allowing us to make a song from beginning to end only with the instruments that Logic Pro gives us.

Such as synthesizers, basses, drums, piano, strings, sitar, koto, among others.

It doesn’t have the best library in the world, but it offers an acceptable sound quality, and it also costs us nothing. All this is included for free with Logic Pro.

Pros

It is important to mention that the Logic Pro library is expanded considerably with each update adding new instruments, samples, or loops (currently it offers hundreds of loops).

This library is excellent for making models, and for people who are starting it will be more than enough.

This program has one of the most intuitive and easy-to-use interfaces, especially for beginners who have not used a DAW before and want to compose or edit something quickly.

Cons

Not everything is perfect, Logic Pro X doesn’t have great customization or automation with shortcuts or Macros that other DAWs do.

It even sometimes has problems with the few automations available in it.

Another disadvantage is that you can only use plugins that are from the AU version, which is exclusive for macOS.

And sadly, you cannot use plugins that are VST, which are mostly free and independent plugins.

Nowadays, it is quite common for plugins of all versions such as VST, AU, and AAX to be created.

However, it is important to consider this if you decide that it is the only DAW that you are going to use.

Another significant fact is that Logic Pro occupies relatively a lot of space on Mac’s storage device if you download its entire library.

Which we highly recommend for the reasons we discussed earlier, it is good and it is free.

So this can be a real concern if you have a MacBook Pro with 250 GB or less of storage.

On the other hand, we must not forget is that this program is exclusive for Mac, which makes it incompatible for use on computers with Windows or Linux operating systems.

Pricing

Logic Pro X has a cost in its standard version of 200 USD, which in our opinion is worth it considering everything that is included in the program itself.

By paying this single price, you will have access to all its functions, since this software only has one version for sale.

Unlike FL Studio that has four payment categories, something that in our opinion seems very good.

Conclusion

If you need a DAW to arrange and compose music or are a beginner, the best option without a doubt would be Logic Pro X, due to its extensive sound library and easy use.

On the other hand, if you want to produce electronic music or create more modern sounds, FL Studio is an excellent option to consider.

Although Logic Pro is currently very versatile and is optimized so that all its processes are fluid, it would be the perfect DAW if it weren’t an Apple exclusive product.

So this means that to obtain it, we will have to buy a Mac.

This represents an extra cost of money, making it more difficult to acquire for those who have a low budget, a fact that favors FL Studio, which is available for several devices.

Remember that these considerations are my opinion, so we suggest that you use the software that you like the most and feel the more comfortable, both DAWs are exceptional.

And finally, remember that the best DAW for you is the one that you know best how to use and that suits your needs.
